SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 7.65mm. S# 52983. Bbl. 3 1/8". Model 1916 "Ruby" semi-automatic pistol mfg. in Spain by Astra (Esperanza y Unceta). Left side of the slide is marked "765 1916 MODEL AUTOMATIC PISTOL/ ASTRA PATENT," with a Manufrance "Manufacture Francaise d'Armes & Cycles de Saint-Etienne" retailer-marked stamp on the right. Bbl. is stamped "Hope," followed by a Crown/PG proof at the chamber. Left side of the frame is marked with an Esperanza y Unceta "E U" within an oval proof at the tang. Frame and slide exhibit a rust blue finish, with the bbl. being polished in-the-white and the trigger exhibiting a nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Half-moon blade front sight with dovetailed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching via the assembly # "4801," which is present on the frame, slide, and bbl. MAGS: one 9-rd. nickel plated. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory finishes, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning, some superficial handling marks, as well as areas of light to mild oxidation overall. Trigger retains fair to good amounts of its nitre blue finish. Bbl. exhibits areas of age-related discoloration. Very bright bore, exhibiting light to mild pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips exhibit some scattered nicks and marks to the checkering, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. PROVENANCE: from the lifelong collection of Bill Peterken. (24-6239/MLW). CURIO. $200-300.
