Cal. 48. NSN. Bbl. 38" oct. w/ smooth bore measuring 7/8" across flats at muzzle. Brass blade front sight w/ fixed V notch rear sight. Bolster type conversion. Engraved trade lock & percussion hammer lock that appears to be marked "LOWELL / WARRANTED". Plain trigger. Full length artificially stripped cheekpiece stock fastened by 3 wedges. Brass fittings consist of rectangular lid pierced & segmented acorn finial patch box, crescent buttplate, toeplate, finger curl trigger guard & sideplate escutcheon. German silver ornamentation consist of rabbit on cheekpiece, oval on wrist, & rectangular plate on toeline. Wrist of stock has coarse skip line checkering. Replacement hardwood ramrod held by brass thimble & 2 pipes. CONDITION: metal has dark patina appearance w/ pitting becoming heavy in breech area. Stock has worn finish w/ handling marks having cracks & chips around patch box, nose cap & lock areas. Extensive wood erosion is exhibited behind hammer & forward of lockplate. Lock will not hold in cocked position. Dark pitted bore. (01-18808/DS). ANTIQUE. $500-800.
