Cal. 45 ACP. S# 755199. Bbl. 12.5". M1A1 Model of the infamous Thompson SMG, “the gun that made the 20’s roar”. Classic hard wood furniture including horizontal forend. Shoulder stock has metal butt plate w/ trap door. Matte black finish on all exposed metal surfaces. Above the horizontal handguard lies a smooth tapered bbl. which terminates at the familiar front blade sight. Someone welded a Cutts compensator at the muzzle of the M1 barrel. Sling swivels front & rear w/ green canvas sling. The simple yet effective rear sight combines a fixed peep w/ a notch in its protected environment for fast target acquisition. Right side smooth cocking handle. The M1 utilizes the heavily produced 20 rd. & 30 rd. stick mag. Receiver markings are as follows: (Left side) “THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN – CALIBER 45 M1A1 – NO. 755199” (Top) familiar Thompson trademark bullet logo in front of rear sight; (Right side) “AUTO – ORDNANCE CORPORATION – BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT, U.S.A.”. MAGS: 2 Seymour 30 rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Black nylon Walther carry bag. CONDITION: This is a terrific shooter grade example of a historically significant piece. It appears to be an assembly of a few different Thompson styles, built on a receiver w/ deep pitting, that surely would have an interesting story to tell if it could speak. The barrel is more recent than the receiver, w/ a brighter finish & no pitting. Barrel does posses some tooth marks from a wrench. The prior owner welded a Cutts compensator onto the muzzle. The bore remains bright w/ strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand in fully automatic, though trigger sticks on occasion when placed in semiautomatic. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT SMG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. (03-1701/JZ). CURIO CLASS III. $18,000-24,000.
