GERMAN STEYR-KRUPP MP40 SMG. Cal. 9mm. S# 3047. Bbl. 9 9/10". Hooded fixed blade front sight. Dual leaf rear sight is windage drift adj. Of all the German WWII era SMGs, the MP40 may be the most iconic of them all. Its slow cyclic rate combined w/ decent sights & pleasant ergonomics make it as fun to operate as it is interesting to look at. It utilizes a very simplistic, yet incredibly smooth open bolt firing mechanism. The recoil system is typical of German over engineering consisting of a 3 piece telescoping rod w/ a captured spring that doubles as the connection point for the firing pin which slides inside of the bolt. The safety mechanism is an extremely simple design which shares commonalties w/ other WWII era SMGs. It consists of a rearward notch that interfaces w/ the cocking handle holding the bolt to the rear. Manufactured by Steyr , utilizing parts from Krupp as a subcontractor. This MP40 utilizes a third generation mag. housing which includes the ribs for strength & square notch facing the shooter. All visibly numbered parts share matching numbers which is incredibly desirable & increasingly rare these days. The extruded receiver tube matches the grip frame, barrel, trigger housing, stock, bolt, bbl. nut, rear sight, front sight, resting bar & even the firing pin. Waffenamts appear on multiple parts including rear receiver just above folding stock mechanism "WaA254", front sight mechanism just forward of resting bar is also Eagle "623", front of receiver tube just rear of bbl. nut Eagle w/ "WaA623", which are correct Steyr stampings. Under folding stock, dark brown Bakelite grips & lower receiver cover. Original numbered resting bar is present. MAGS: 1 WWII era 32 rd. CONDITION: .Original finish on tube complete & consistent w/ thinning on high spots & in areas of mechanical intervention. Barrel finish mostly faded to gray. Stock locks tight & remains firm as intended in both folded & extended positions. Grips appear in nice condition free of any obvious structural damage beyond some light handling marks under close examination. Bakelite receiver has typical use marks w/ a few very light scratches Bright bore w/ strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT CURIO & RELIC MACHINE GUN REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. (03-1749/JZ). CURIO, CLASS III. $19,000-28,000.
