DEVICE SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 Ga. S# A000115SA. Bbl. 18". The USAS-12 is a mag. fed shotgun w/ an interesting history. While it loosely resembles the iconic AR-15, especially in the upper portion of the receiver utilized as a carry handle, there is much more to its appeal. During the Clinton administration, there was an effort to push gun control through the Executive Branch w/out going through Congress. After teaming up w/ Lloyd Benson as his new Secretary of the Treasury, they moved forward by changing policy through the BATF, which was a department of the Treasury at that time. Utilizing law current to this day, any firearm w/ a bore diameter of over 1/2" is considered a destructive device unless receiving an exemption under the sporting purposes clause. Several popular shotguns including the USAS-12, the Spas-15, the Street Sweeper & Striker-12 were determined to no longer be "sporting" guns therefore reverting them to destructive devices, necessitating long waiting periods & background checks, submission of fingerprints & passport photos. With a stroke of the pen, these normal 12 Ga. shotguns would immediately be classified as and treated like grenade launchers & bazookas. For a short period of time following this new determination, owners of these newly prohibited firearms were allowed to register them & get them on the books free from the normal ATF fees. While many people participated in the registry & even took advantage of the new destructive device status superseding bbl. length laws, eventually the registry was closed & any that were not registered during this amnesty period became contraband unless they were separated from the receivers or destroyed. This example is a complete, registered Destructive Device, manufactured by Interord Corporation, w/ a 2 3/4" chamber. Finish is the correct, gray color on the upper receiver, while the lower receiver is matte black. Ambidextrous operating system, including dust cover, charging handle & safety / selector. It is currently set up in right hand configuration. Black plastic furniture. Currently sporting black, nylon sling. MAGS: None. CONDITION: Finish coverage is complete & consistent w/ no obvious wear, aside from some light thinning on lower receiver on high spots, and on barrel, from what appears to be from rack wear. Bright, shiny bore. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE (DD) REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. (03-1897/JZ). MODERN CLASS III . $2,000-3,000.
