MACHINE GUN ON MODEL 1909 TRIPOD. CURIO. Cal. 7.92 Mauser. S# 7230. Bbl. 28". This MG08 Maxim was mfg. by D.W.M. in Berlin in 1918. Original items that correspond matching the original S# in some variation of 47230, including parts as they get smaller dropping numbers off to become shorter & fit the space including 47230, 7230, 230 & 30 consist of left side plate, top cover, bbl. jacket, sights, feed block, cocking lever, spade grip assembly & possibly others that are less clearly visible. Oil caps on spade grips are also matching numbers, and thread off & on easily, retained by both present retention springs. Bolt currently marked 9935, having been reassigned prior which is common. Model 1909 tripod which was most commonly used for the Swiss Model MG11 machine gun. MAGS: 1 cloth belt w/ brass tabs, dated 1943. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: ZF12 Optics w/ original leather case. CONDITION: This is a beautiful example of the classic original belt-fed that started an entirely new generation of firepower. The finish is strong, consisting of extremely thorough bluing on sideplates, top cover, & barrel jacket. The receiver finish is extremely complete, obviously well kept for. Everything moves fluidly and is extremely smooth. Markings are filled w/ white for a striking contrast, easy to read. The oil caps are matching in numbers, and thread in and out effortlessly. The hardwood grips still retain their finger grooves and even the checkering is intact and in nice condition. The ZF12 optics appear to have the original gray finish on them, w/ all markings clear and intact. Bullet drop compensator is adjustable from 400m to 2400m & moves fluidly. The glass is quite clear w/ sharp reticle and only a few small spots in the 4 O'clock to 5 O'clock area. Tripod still has the original spare parts box, which is often missing. The gun is supported by a large ring around the barrel jacket that interfaces w/ the mount. It appears to be a high rise variation. The screw drive elevation adjustment moves freely & it enjoys full adjustment. Forward water drain below bbl. jacket functions smoothly. Firing mechanism functions smoothly in all aspects & appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. Bore is bright w/ strong rifling. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT MG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Brian Linde. (03-1809/JZ). CURIO CLASS III. $8,000-$12,000
