HAMILTON & SONS FIREARMS. DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE. Cal. 60MM. S# PKM601. Bbl. 30". The U.S. M19 60MM Mortar was developed during WWII to serve as a portable, lightweight mortar system that could deliver high angle fire from a reasonable distance while being fielded by ground troops. First introduced in 1942, it was used to deliver High Explosive (HE) rounds, Illumination Rounds & High Volume Smoke Rounds. The average muzzle velocity of these rounds was approximately 550 feet per second, w/ an effective range of over 5500 feet. It replaced the M2, and offered the ability to be trigger fired, rather than just a strait drop fire. It also utilized a smaller base plate than the M2 to cut back on unnecessary weight. Its use was short lived as it couldn't retain the accuracy of the M2 without the heavy base plate, and when outfitted w/ it, it was actually heavier than the M2 it was designed to replace. Though its military use in the U.S. was relatively short lived, it did see action in WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam. It is still in use today in the military of other nations. This example is painted an attractive shade of OD Green & retains the original style sling / muzzle cap. It has the correct, small base plate. This particular piece was manufactured by Hamilton & Son Firearms and is listed in the NFA Registry as a fully transferable Destructive Device. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Unmarked M2 style base plate & 16 practice rounds (many w/ fins). CONDITION: Finish complete & consistent w/ almost no sign of handling or use. Uniform gray finish on tube & base plate. Bore is bright & shiny. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Brian Linde. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE.(03-1815/JZ). MODERN CLASS III. $3,000-6,000.
