GAME GUN ONCE THE PROPERTY OF A DUKE, REFURBISHED. Cal. 16 Ga., 2 5/8". S# 6434. The 28 3/8" dovetailed barrels are engraved "Gastinne Renette a Paris" on slightly raised flat tappered rib. Barrel flats are stamped with 1929 Belgian nitro proofs for 16 Ga. 2 1/2" chambers. Case hardened sidelock action is stocked to the fences and features non automatic safety, side clips, hidden third fastener, bushed strikers and double triggers (front articulated). Although of very high quality, gun is sparsely finished. It is filed with arcaded fences in Woodward style. Engraving consists only of varying sized scroll borders and some feather bursts around hinge pin and top lever pivot. Blued top lever and trigger guard have more scroll borders, S# is on trigger guard tang. Well marbled European walnut straight grip buttstock appears to be a well made replacement which measures 15" over ribbed horn buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Wood of splinter forend appears to be original. Forend features uncheckered central diamond inlet in gold with a Duke's crown over the initials "MT". MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .738". There are some deep pits remaining on knuckle. New buttstock retains nearly all its original finish with some light marks. Checkering with little wear. Forend wood is refinished to match, checkering recut. Bores are shiny and some fairly deep pits are noted in right barrel, lighter pits are in left. Forcing cones are lengthened. Action is tight, barrels are on face, ejectors are strong and in time. (22-5626/MGM). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
