Cal. 36. S# 77. 13" overall. George Todd marked revolvers are among the most controversial of all potential Confederate revolvers. The past several that have been in auction or catalog lists all have the same style sans serif dies "GEO TODD" & "AUSTIN" stamped on either side of frame and top of barrel. This example has marking stamped on left side of frame and top of barrel though mostly obliterated. Revolver is also marked "C. S. A." On the left side of barrel housing. The 7.5" barrel is totally round, tapering with no housing, fixed brass notch rear sight and blade front sight. S# 77 is observed on barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, and wedge. This cataloger doesn't believe any of these being Confederate, but based on prices realized, many believe. Regardless, revolver is being sold unreserved, and market will decide value. CONDITION: good overall, heavy iron patina with pitting, brass cleaned with light patina, backstrap has filled hole where lanyard swivel once attached. Several screws are replaced. Mechanically revolver cocks and rotates cylinder, the mainspring is weak, pitted rifled bore. (01-24684/JS). ANTIQUE. $20,000-25,000.
