Overall length: 41”. Blade length: 35”. This interesting cavalry saber was brought back during WWII as a war souvenir and has its original capture paperwork. The saber likely dates from 1870 to about 1900. The blade has a single wide fuller and does not appear to be marked at the ricasso. Brass hilt with a semi-basket 2-branch guard. The hilt has a turned-down drop quillon and spade-shaped languets on both sides. Plain bird’s head pommel and backstrap. Wire-wrapped leather grip. Iron scabbard with brass suspension mounts. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a certificate of authenticity is included with this saber. CONDITION: blade has a dark gray, mottled patina. Hilt has a pleasing tarnish. Grip & wire are complete, though some strands of wire are dislodged. Scabbard has a dark patina with oxidation, and the body has a few shallow dents. (02-22435/BF). $300-500.
