RIFLE. Cal. appears to 8.14x64R ("172/28" proof bore, but no powder proof). S# 2944. Matching numbered 29" oct. bbl. having Maker's address & crown "V" proof; the "Crown V" proof appears indicate this gun may have been mfg. before 1891 & reproofed in Suhl, however more research needed. Ramp mounted aperture front sight & tang mounted adj. aperture disk rear sight. Bottom of barrel has 2 cleaning rod pipes & sling swivel on rear pipe. Case hardened receiver with German silver inlays of scroll, "SYSTEM STAHL" on left side & "PATENT NO 2944" on right. Removable breech block & lever with double set triggers. Wedge fastened walnut forearm. Walnut stock w/ large right hand high rise cheekpiece, toeline sling swivel & Scheutzen style buttplate. CONDITION: good barrel blue mixing with pinprick oxidation with 1 large spots of oxidation. Very good vivid case colors on sides showing fading finish on bottom metal with light scratches. Good wood finish with handling marks & stains around receiver. Good bore shows light pitting. (25-2015/MD). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
