PISTOLS WITH FLAG, CAPTURED BY CAPT. HAROLD CHAIT. 1) MAUSER "S/42" CODE "1938" DATE P.08 LUGER. Cal. 9x19mm Parabellum. S# 5365i. Bbl. 4". Standard configuration P.08 Luger mfg. by Mauser in 1938. The bbl. extension is marked "1938" over the chamber, with Mauser Eagle / 63 acceptance proofs marked on the right. Toggle is marked with Mauser's "S/42" mfg. code. Metal components exhibit a salt blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2 piece checkered wood grips. All numbers are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold open latch, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar spring, breech block, extractor, firing pin, toggles, and rear toggle pin. Interior of grips are matching via the last 2 digits of the S#. MAGS: 2-8 rd. 1 wood bottom, 1 aluminum bottom. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: black leather holster marked "DLU / 1941" above an Eagle / "WaA727" on the rear. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original arsenal blue finish exhibiting some concentrated areas of wear that show through to silvering, with light to mild edge wear present overall. Very bright bore exhibiting consistent areas of mild surface oxidation, and retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show some smoothing and some scattered nicks to the diamonds but otherwise are good overall. Holster shows scattered marks from handling and storage but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. (23-7584/MLW). 2) MAUSER "BYF/44" CODE P.38 SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm Parabellum. S# 9098w. Bbl. 4 7/8". Standard configuration P.38 semi-automatic pistol mfg. at the Mauser arsenal in 1944. Left side of slide is marked "P.38", followed by "byf/ 44", and the S#, with Mauser Eagle/WaA135 acceptance proofs on the right. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, with the frame being mounted with 2-piece grooved brown pressed resin grips. All numbers are matching and include the frame, slide, bbl., and locking block. MAGS: 1 original 8-rd. and 1 post-war 8-rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: brown leather holster marked "joa/1942" on the rear, indicating mfg. by Dresder Koffer. Interior of closure flap is marked "8258d" above "Hellmich" in pen. Pistol is also accompanied by an original Third Reich flag. CONDITION: very good, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting a couple spots of light wear, and a few small spots of light pitting overall. Near mirror bore, exhibiting light oxidation (primarily on the edges of the rifling) and retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips show some light superficial handling marks, but otherwise are very good overall. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting areas of discoloration, with scattered spots of age related cracking and crazing overall. No capture paperwork, though consignor states that the items in this lot were directly purchased from the Estate of Capt. Harold Chait, 367 Fighter Group, Whitman Mass.
