A beautiful, large, gold GAR Post Commander’s Medal with an eagle over crossed cannons suspension pin attached to a miniature Brigadier General’s shoulder strap with what appears to be diamonds in the stars. Hanging from chains on each end of the strap is an exquisite gold & blue enamel rendition of the GAR Star with diamonds on each point. A red enamel cloverleaf hangs from the center of the General’s strap and is lettered “Co. E 53D. PA. VOLS”. The reverse of the cloverleaf is engraved “Captain -Co. E.-”. The reverse of the star is engraved “PRESENTED TO John Shields. Post Commander Dept. of New Jersey, BY HIS STAFF. Trenton FEB. 7TH 1895”. The entire medal is backed by a red, white, & blue American flag style ribbon. The medal is housed in its original box with gold lettering on the inside of the lid that reads “JOS.K.DAVISON MANUFACTURING JEWELER PHILA.” CONDITION: the medal itself is in superb condition, showing very light wear overall. The case is complete but shows notable wear, and the rear hinge is partially detached. (02-21264-1/BF). $2,000-3,000.
