Cal. 60. NSN. This attractive medium quality gun has 17" bronze barrel which has octagonal breech section and is round toward muzzle with cannon turned rings. Good quality flintlock with beveled plate having rebated tail is fitted with chamfered serpentine cock, integral round pan, bridled friction frizzen and feather spring with bulbous finial having teat. European walnut stock extends to within 2" of muzzle and is brass mounted. Double beaded trigger guard has pineapple finial, buttplate has steeple type top tang. Both mounts have some scroll and foliate engraving. Stock has large square checkering at grip with punched in design and attaches to barrel with two side bolts without escutcheons. Greenheart ramrod with horn tip has steel worm tail. CONDITION: very good. Barrel and mounts with old cleaning are nicely toned. Lock is mottled gray patina. Stock has many marks in old possibly original finish. Bore is smooth. Lock is very good. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (01-22463/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
