MOUNTS. Cal. 60. S# NSN. This good looking pistol has 13" tapered round barrel with raised carved top rib. Breech area has some naive engraving of prancing deer and scrolls. Early style lock with heavy chamfered flat plate is fitted with serpentine cock, inset faceted pan, unbridled friction frizzen and feather spring with foliate finial. Lock plate and cock are engraved with some scroll which surrounds flags and arms at rear of cock and seated warrior at front. Dense European walnut stock extends to muzzle with horn tip and is pinned to barrel. There are raised mouldings around all major components and relief carved scrolls around barrel tang. Brass mounts are very finely cast and engraved with deep scrolls and some animal figures on heavy grip cap with long spurs. Other furniture has light scroll engraving with the exception of multi-pierced long sideplate relief engraved with scrolls and coiled dragon. Hickory ramrod with brass tip mounts through single faceted and beaded pipe and matching thimble. CONDITION: good. Iron and steel parts cleaned to pewter gray over light pin prick pitting. Stock retains most of an old oil refinish; with some softening of carving, with major repair at front of grip. Brass is slightly rubbed and has traces of original gilding visible where protected. Bore is somewhat pitted. Mechanically good. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (01-27520/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
