Cal. 12X12 2-5/8"/30-30 Win. S# 764. Made in Wheeling, WV between Ca. 1905-1909 about 1,000 of these guns were ever produced. This fine example has 28-1/8" barrel set with full length rib fitted with detent adjustable rear sight and Marbles white bead front sight. Rib extension is engraved "FLUID STEEL". Maker's name and address are on tops of barrels. Barrel flats are stamped with S#. Case hardened boxlock action has rifle cocking lever in front of trigger guard and is fitted with automatic safety, cross bolt fastener and double triggers. Rifle is fired by front trigger after pushing cocking lever forward. Action is engraved with about 40% coverage of well cut scroll surrounding game scenes; with bear looking over the mountain on left side and running deer on right. A flying duck is on trigger guard bow and S# is on tang. Round knob buttstock made of very nicely veined and stump figured attractive European walnut measures 14" over Holenbeck Gun Company hard rubber buttplate. Side panels are nicely moulded and checkered. Grip checkering has bold flourishes into comb. Matching splinter forend has unusual sliding button release and is carved with distinctive grooves on each side along barrel channel. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .729. R .728. Restriction: L .026 (mod). R .022 (light mod). Wall thickness: L .030. R .030. STOCK: DAH: 3". DAC: 1-13/16". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14". WEIGHT: 7 lb. 14 oz. CONDITION: fine. Barrels retaining over 80% of what appears to be their original blue; thinning at normal wear areas. Action retains about 30% original case color; the remainder smooth pewter gray. Stocks retain most of their original oil finish with a good number of light marks. Checkering lightly worn; moderately worn on forend. Shotgun bores are bright and shiny throughout; without any noted problems. Rifle bore is very fine; shiny with sharp rifling throughout. Action is tight; mechanically good. A fine example of this American classic in arguably in the most desirable caliber offered, as ammunition is readily available. (25-3420/MGM). CURIO. $2,500-3,500.
