SPRING BAYONET BY RICHARDSON.
Cal. 1.2" at muzzle appears to be .75 at breech end. S# NSN. This gun was most likely made by James Richardson working in Manchester Great Britain 1793-1830. The flared 15" barrel has octagonal breech section with Birmingham proofs that transitions to round though a wedding band. Barrel is fitted with 13 1/2" triangular spring loaded bayonet with catch, which is held in folded position by thumb actuated slide on barrel tang. Lock with chamfered and rebated plate is fitted with high breasted serpentine cock, rounded integral pan and bridled roller frizzen. Feather spring with roller has bulbous finial that obscures last portion of maker's name on lockplate. Lock is engraved with line borders and some foliate sprays. Stock of plain European walnut is brass mounted. Buttplate has long top spur, butt is engraved "Edwd. Lloyd" "Green Hill". Trigger guard has 1780's type acorn finial. Skip line checkering is at grip. Stock is pinned to barrel and a horn tipped rosewood ramrod is held by beaded brass pipe and matching thimble. CONDITION: fine. Barrel showing cleaning to gray brown over light overall pitting. Lock has traces of case hardening color but is mostly gray to brown. Stock retains most of its original oil finish with a good number of knocks and bumps. There are some long cracks at toe and a few patch repairs with new oil. Bore is lightly rusted. Mechanically fine, bayonet catch and spring are good. Lock is good. (01-21792/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,000-4,000.
