Cal. 44. S# 10379. This is an honest complete & original 5th variation which encompasses approximate serial number range 5000–12910. Characteristics of this 1865 manufactured rifle include pointed 2nd type butt plate with .75" trap door, .65" hole bored in the butt stock to accept the iron cleaning rod. Trigger retaining pin was increased in diameter from .095 to .125, lever latch on lower receiver tang and latch flange on rear of lever, has a milled flat along the magazine follower slot in lower front of receiver, large magazine follower with 5/8" wide finger tab, square back front sight blade, slanted profile to stock comb, distinctive "bump" on left side of oil finished stock, large 3.25" all serif barrel address, sight dovetail milled in barrel only, 900 yard rear sight with slide stop screw at top, unusual 5-groove rifling found on some late guns, sling swivels mounted on left side. Serial number stamped on barrel behind rear sight dovetail, left side of lower receiver tang, top receiver tang channel in stock, inside bottom edge of butt plate, "H" stamped rear of latch on tang. Screws are not serial numbered as correct for this serial range. Matching assembly numbers are stamped on rounded portion of barrel under loading sleeve and on rear edge of loading sleeve, though we did disassemble to view them. This rifle has "as found" appearance. CONDITION: very good overall, complete and original, brass has smooth patina with some staining, iron is dark overall with pitting, markings all discernible. Sound well fit stock with distinctive "Henry bump" and hand worn patina. Mechanically fine, good rifled bore with pitting. (01-26370/JS). ANTIQUE. $12,000-15,000.
