BY M. HASSELMANN. Cal. 20 Ga. 2-1/2". S# 15227 on 2 barrel sets (pre 1891). Barrel sets are made for any usage with double shotgun, rifle shotgun combo and double rifle. The damascus double shotgun barrels with gold inlaid bands around breech are gold inlaid "M. Hasselmann Frankfurt a/M." on flat game rib. Crowned "V" proof (in stock in 1891) is at rear of rib. Barrels are not otherwise proofed. Rifle/shotgun barrel set appears to be chambered for German 43 Mauser military cartridge right and 20 Ga. left. Barrels have one standing one folding leaf rear sights and have been re-blacked. These two barrel sets were originally made with the gun and are S#'d. Later double rifle barrels are not maker marked and have folding rear sights on matted full length rib. Barrel flats are stamped with German black powder proofs and appear to be chambered for 9.3x72R cartridge. Round bodied coin finished action with forward pivoting lever is fitted with peninsula back spring locks with round bodied serpentine rebounding hammers. A flip-up peep sight is recessed in top tang. Action is engraved with nicely cut acanthus scroll surrounding game scenes; wild hogs on left action and roebuck on lock. Right side shows downed stag on action. Lock depicts the rest of the story; a satisfied jaeger is leaning against a rock. Both triggers are set. Trigger guard with roebuck scene on bow has scroll carved horn extension forming pistol grip. Somewhat crotch figured European walnut buttstock measures 13-3/8" over flat checkered steel buttplate marked with partial S# on toe. Stock features right hand cheekpiece, point pattern checkering and a sling loop. Opening lever has horn cover and forend is permanently attached to action. Barrels lift out after toggling forward release. MEASUREMENTS: Double Shotgun BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .622. R .622. Restriction: L .021 (mod). R .000 (cyl). Wall thickness: L .038. R .040.
