REYNOLDS. Cal. 38. NSN. Bbl. 30" set, engraved “F. REYNOLDS. N. Y.” ( Francis Reynolds working in New York City 1841-1867) on full length concave rib. Brown bbls. are stepped w/ ring transition toward breech end. Each bbl. is individually sighted. Patent breeches are made w/ out blow outs & there are gold bands at breech end of rib. Front spring locks are fitted w/ flat faced serpentine hammers & are nicely engraved w/ sprays of scroll at fronts & tails surrounding game scenes of tigers on left & right under “F. REYNOLDS”. Lightly crotch figured American walnut half-stock is German silver mounted & these high quality mounts are nicely scroll engraved. Fancy ovate patch box on right side of butt is engraved w/ running deer motif on cover. Grip is checkered in a nicely detailed perched eagle is inlet on face of swept & right hand cheekpiece. A wooden ramrod w/ brass tip mounts through 2 plain iron pipes & engraved German silver thimble. CONDITION: good. Iron parts cleaned to silver gray. Stock retains most of its original varnish finish. German silver mounts w/ old cleaning are nicely toned. Left hammer is replacement. Right hammer screw is also replaced. Bores are every good, left bbl. w/ sm. bulge about 12" behind muzzle. Locks are good. Hammers loose on tumblers. A very attractive New York rifle. (01-19904/MGM). ANTIQUE. $800-2,000.
