DUDLEY. Cal. 16 Ga. NSN. The 29" twist bbl. has underrib & some scroll engraving on top. Patent breech is nicely filed & 2 gold lines are inlaid around end. Front spring, percussion lock & flat faced hammer are engraved w/ open scrolling acanthus w/ in geometric borders. "William Dudley" is engraved at bottom (working in Birmingham, 1817-54). Gun is iron mounted w/ buttplate having long top spur & trigger guard w/ simple spiked ball finial, engraved matching lockplate. Stock has flat top point pattern checkering at grip, silver nose cap, vacant silver oval at top of grip. Stock attaches to bbls w/ captive side bolt through oval silver escutcheons. New dowel ramrod mounts through 2 plain pipes & matching thimble. CONDITION: good "as found". Bbl. & lock w/ considerable light freckling over traces of original finish. Stock retains most of its original finish & is dirty. Bore is good w/ some scattered pitting. Mechanically good. (01-20842/MGM). ANTIQUE. $500-800.
