PISTOL BY JOHANN PETERLONGO OF INNSBRUCK AUSTRIA. Cal. 9.1 x 40R (?). NSN. (Made before 1891). Bbl. 9 1/2" tapered oct. engraved w/ makers name & address on top flat. Rear sight adj. for elevation & front sight ramp w/ flip over post & bead are dovetailed through. There are no proofs on bbl. & action. (Austrian guns were first proofed in 1891). Round bodied forward pivoting lever action is case hardened & fitted w/ peninsula backspring lock w/ nicely chamfered & filed rebounding hammer. Fence is nicely filed & action has line border engraving. Lock is unmarked. Trigger is dbl. set & steel trigger guard has finger spur. Grip stock of lightly figured European walnut has point pattern checkering toward action w/ grip section deeply fluted & carved w/ matching steel cap. Captive forend attaches to lift out bbl. w/ side nail through steel oval escutcheons. CONDITION: fine to very fine, "original, as found". Bbl. retains approx. 95% original blue w/ high edge wear. Action retains approx. 90% original case hardening color w/ some brown flecking. Lock retains most of its color, faded at tail. Stocks retain most of their original French polish finish, lightly worn. Bore is fine, sharp & shiniy, perhaps w/ some light frosting. Lock is fine. Trigger sets. Action is tight. Pistol is in need of a good cleaning. (01-17479/MGM62). ANTIQUE. $600-900.
