MURDOCH OF DOUNE, SCOTLAND. Cal. 54. NSN. The 5 1/4” iron bbl. has raised shaped breech section & transitions from rnd. to polygonal at flared muzzle. Lock of typical Scottish type is fitted w/ serpentine cock, integral rounded pan, bridled friction frizzen & feather spring w/ file decoration. “I. Murdoch” is under pan. Typical Scottish all iron frame has bag grip & ball trigger. A nicely filed steel belt hook is affixed to left side. Bbl., lock & frame are engraved w/ near full coverage large rudimentary scroll & some geometric designs. What appears to be original thin turned steel ramrod is held by single pipe. CONDITION: metal parts w/ considerable deep pitting are cleaned to silver gray. Engraving is somewhat softened. There appears to be old brazed repairs to frame on left side in association w/ mounting of belt hook. There are also some brass repairs to trigger ball. Mechanically good. Bore pitted. (01-21228/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
