CONFEDERATE ENFIELD RIFLE MUSKET. Cal. 577. NSN. This is a nice example of a very scarce Sinclair Hamilton and Company proofed 1863 dated pattern 1853 Enfield rifle musket, the workhorse long arm of the Confederate infantry. Standard configuration 39" Birmingham proofed barrel, long range ladder sight, contractor's cartouche on right buttstock, well struck and easily discerned Sinclair Hamilton mark forward of buttstock crown over "SH / C1". This is a fine survivor that survived with superior condition. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copy of pertinent pages from the "THE ENGLISH CONNECTION" by Russ Pritchard & Corky Huey, detailing this rarely offered longarm. CONDITION: very good overall, complete and original, pitting around bolster, balance of metal has smooth iron patina, barrel retains strong areas of thinning original blue. Stock is superior with good markings, inspector's cartouche opposite lock is deeply struck with pair of indiscernible script initials, Sinclair Hamilton mark is excellent, contractor's cartouche of Charles Reeves is also crisp. Brass buttplate and nose cap have smooth olive patina. Mechanically fine, dark dirty rifled bore. (01-26897/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
