IN ORIGINAL FLINT WITH BAYONET. Cal. 69. NSN. Standard configuration with 45" barrel affixed to stock with three spring retained bands. "P" and eagle head proofs are at rear "V" proof obscured by vice marks, "US" is on top. Correct style lock with integral rounded pan has all correct assembly marks on interior which consists of a small "x" with each line stamped individually. This mark also appears on left side top spur of cock where it more closely resembles a "T". The cross also appears on retaining screw of feather spring and rear lock screw. It is not visible on frizzen due to oxidation as it was normally stamped on bottom where easily obscured. Lock is marked "US" eagle and "SPINGFIELD" in arch at center and "1810" horizontally on tail. Walnut stock with short fluted comb does not have cheekpiece cut away, but is mounted with correct style trigger guard with rounded finials and buttplate stamped "1810". "US" is stamped on left side panel. Brass collection tag marked "M11" is attached to rear sling loop. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: correct style socket bayonet with 15" triangular blade stamped "US" and "M". CONDITION: good to very good. All metal parts with old deep brown almost black patina most likely the result of being rubbed with oil which was also applied to stock for preservation. Only noted problems with lock are replaced frizzen screw which does not extend to lockplate, replaced top jaw and screw. Cock shows lateral crack across body. Dark rusted bore. Mechanically good except for noted problems. Bayonet exhibits mostly brown patina and file marks from refitting to musket. (01-22763/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,500.
