Cal. 45 Colt. S# 12646. Bbl. 5 1/2". Barrel is marked "GREAT WESTERN ARMS CO." on top and "45 COLT" at left rear. These revolvers were produced by Great Western Arms Company from 1953-1963. Four click Colt style hammer. Firing pin of Christy Gun Works design in cylinder frame. Cylinder pin retained by transverse push button release. Fluted 6 rd. cylinder has Colt style bushing. Very much a copy of the Colt SAA that normally came with imitation stag grips; fitted with plain black plastic aftermarket grips. Colt style ramped offset ejector housing with crescent shaped ejector rod head. Bead blast blued finish of satin appearance. Demise of GW was due to poor management and the surge of sales by Ruger plus Colt reentering the market. References state 22,238 made of which 16% was 45 Colt. CONDITION: good general appearance with peppery light pitting spots on ejector housing and barrel. Noticeable turn line on cylinder. Plier marks on cylinder pivot head. Noticeably off on timing unless the hammer is fully pulled. Poor grips with crack and pulled through bushing. Good bore with light frosting and wear. PROVENANCE: included is a copy of "Great Western Arms Company" by Dougan & Hoobler, "Guns of the Old West Spring 2008" & cover and page 11 of journal of the American Arms Collector. (25-6027/RW). CURIO. $400-600.
