Cal. 7x57. S# 38075. The firm of Greifelt is known for its fine quality workmanship and their guns were imported by Abercrombie & Fitch before WWII. This high condition example of a fairly scarce bolt action rifle has 22-1/2" half octagon ribbed barrel. Rib is mounted with interesting single standing leaf rear sight having blue enamel face making it more visible in low light. Front bead is rectangular and white enamel faced. Milled out portion of rib is engraved with retailer "Carl Stiegele, Hofgewehrfabrik, Munchen". Caliber is at rear. Color casehardened model 98 Mauser action is fitted with claw scope bases, bolt with butter knife handle, side safety, double set triggers and hinged floorplate with lever release. Action is engraved with sprays of scroll and line borders. This engraving surrounds Griffin logo and "GREIF" on floorplate and side wall of action is engraved "Greifelt & Co Suhl". Trigger guard is horn and tang extends to horn grip cap. Pistol grip stock of lightly figured European walnut measures 14-1/2" over open sided black pad. Stock features Tyrolean right hand cheekpiece, horn stock junction of two piece forend, schnabled horn forend tip and closely spaced point pattern checkering at grip and forend. CONDITION: very fine. Metal retaining over 90% factory blue and casehardening color. Stock with nearly all of its original oil finish; butt portion showing lose of gloss and some darkening and appears to have been under water for some time. Bore is bright, sharp and shiny throughout.
