This lot contains a rare 8" x 10" four-page, California-imprinted San Francisco lettersheet, printed circa 1854, showing an illustration of four vignettes of prospecting life during the winter of 1852 and 1853 on the front, which reads "Lith & Publd by Britton & Rey, corner Montgom'y & Calif'a streets, S. Francisco." Also included is a 7" x 9" framed color lithograph that reads "Native Californians Lassoing a Bear," showing a grizzly bear attacking mounted mountain men. There are also 18 individually packaged 12" x 17" and 17" x 24" woodblock engravings of Civil War scenes from the 1895 publication "Frank Leslie's Illustrated Civil War." CONDITION: very good overall, with tape removed from the bottom corners of the San Francisco lettersheet. PROVENANCE: Martin Lane Historic & Western Americana Lifetime Collection.
