WOODEN NAVAL CARRIAGES. The attractive brass tubes have 14" smooth bores, 7/8" in diameter. Tube is 16" overall. The cannon mounted on the carriage measures approx. 20 1/2" overall length including Cascabel knobs. The cannons are numbered faintly "1" & "2" on the top left side near the trunnions. The cast-in trunnions are located below the centerline of the bores. Both cannons have "I.B" in ovals occurring on both sides of the vent on each tube. The vents are fully drilled into the bore. Cannons are mounted on mahogany four-wheel naval style carriages. Carriages are equipped w/ brass hinged cap-squares & a wooden sliding quoin. Balance of the fittings are iron. Solid wooden disc wheels are retained by iron pins. CONDITION: the brass tubes are polished bright & are returning to patina, having scattered spots of verdigris around the moldings. The carriages have moderate wear w/ some cracking & checking in the cheek area. The wheels are generally a loose fit on the axles. The iron fittings on the carriages are notably oxidized w/ a pitted appearance & have turned an overall brown patina. The fittings that retain the cap squares will no longer function for that purpose as the tiny pin-loops are partly worn away. Both cannons have lightly oxidized bores. (02-25501/RW). NON-GUN. $5,000-8,000.
