Cal. 22 LR. S# 21. Bbl. 10" w/ replacement Patridge blade front sight (fixed, not adj.) & opposing screw adj. notched leaf rear. Mfg. 1928-1942; less than 3,400 mfg. Its "SINGLE SHOT" markings are prior to USRA markings that appeared after 1930. 2nd variation (1928-1929) w/ 1 piece walnut grip & plunger type rnd. head ejector. Appearance generally normal; experimental part is that trigger is not pin pivoted. Reference letter from Littlefield Antiques of NH (Richard Littlefield, H& R Factory Historian 1975-1976) indicates pistol was renumbered (left side of frame under grip w/ old number peened) from original number when set aside to study design of pinless trigger. Trigger guard altered to have extra pin at forward end. Letter states likely kept in house & not offered for sale, then further de accessed to designer or high level employee. Appears kept long enough at factory to experiment w/ gold lettering as is on left side of bbl. assembly; factory practice that came about in 1500-2500 S# range. Especially unusual documented pistol that would enhance any Single Shot pistol collection. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: above mentioned reference letter. CONDITION: very good appearance having numerous light marks throughout mixed w/ occasional spot of pinprick oxidation & side wear on bbl. at muzzle. Front strap gray toned & void of finish. Bbl. latch in the white. Light high edge wear. Good to very good grip w/ light handling marks throughout plus occasional diamond damage. Near excellent bore. (21-4447/NW). CURIO. $1,250-1,750.
