Cal. 64. NSN. Bbl. 23" smoothbore w/ offset fixed sights. 22 1/4" Triangular ramrod style bayonet. Action pivots upward for loading w/ release lever protruding at bottom. Breech block is marked "J H HALL / US / 1837" & has a dragon head ornamented percussion hammer. 2 Band fastened, 1-piece stock w/ iron fittings. Stock comb forward of buttplate peak is stamped "8754". Right & left sides of butt are stamped "281". A total of 2,020 were mfg. at Harper's Ferry Armory 1837-1840. Issued to the 2nd US Dragoons, then serving in Florida campaign. CONDITION: metal finish has faded to gray showing scattered light corrosion & pitting, Stock has aged darkened appearance w/ dents & handling marks having hairline cracks along both sides of action. Sound lock. Pitted bore. (01-20434/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,250.
