CAL. 58. S#. NSN. Bbl. 21" rd rifled with 2 bbl bands. 1849 date breech block. Iron mountings. Partial stock inspection proof present. When the Civil War started 5000 1843's were in the US arsenal. In Aug. 1861 they were purchased from the Arsenal for $3.50 each and resold to the Gov't for $22 each after they were rifled by W.W. Marston. Resulting in General John Fremont being relieved of his command. CONDITION: Metal surfaces have a mottled patina and old oxidation. The stock has scattered handling marks, a hairline crack at the trigger area, and initials carved in the toe line. Very good bore with sound rifling. (01-23187/ZAL) ANTIQUE $1800-2500
