Cal. 10 Ga. 2-7/8". S# 572. Sneider was working in Baltimore after 1865. He was an innovative gunmaker and patented many improvements. His 1880 patent covered this type of hammerless gun. It has 30" two striped damascus barrels engraved "SNEIDERS PATENT BALTIMORE MD." on game rib with short extension. Case hardened action features Sneider's unusual safety with knurled button on thumb piece which depresses a rod unlocking triggers. When in fire position, action can not be opened. Other innovations include coil springs for locks, and a transverse sliding bolt which acts as barrel stop putting less stress on hinge pin. Gun locks up with square crossbolt through rib extension and single under lug. Action is engraved with sprays of well cut scroll within line borders "SNEIDER" is on each lockplate. Trigger guard with scroll on bow has S# on tang. Round knob pistol grip buttstock of fiddle figured American walnut measures 14-1/4" over checkered hard rubber buttplate. Stock features drop points, well cut grip checkering and a vacant silver oval on toeline. Matching splinter forend with small ebony tip has push button release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .783. R .783. Restriction: L .028 (mod). R .027 (mod). Wall thickness: L .032. R .025. STOCK: DAH: 3". DAC: 1-3/4". CAST: about 1/2" off. LOP: 14-1/4". WEIGHT: 9 lb. 13 oz. CONDITION: good. Barrels show light cleaning to smooth silver with some minor flecks. It appears barrel brown was never very dark. Action retains traces of original case hardening color with lockplates exhibiting half of this very light color. Stocks retain most of what appears to be their original oil finish with many marks. Bores are very fine, bright and shiny throughout. Action is tight. Mechanically good. A good example of a scarce American gun. (01-26976/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,500.
