LOCK. Cal. 56. NSN. Bbl. 46 3/4" tapered rnd. w/ brass front sight & filed in sighting groove at rear. Trade flintlock w/ flat plate having teat fitted w/ serpentine cock, integral rnd. pan, bridled friction frizzen & feather spring w/ tear drop finial. Plate marked "KETLAND & Co.". Walnut stock extends to w/ in 4" of muzzle w/ thin brass cap & is pinned to bbl. Butt w/ semi handrail comb has lovely sweep through toeline. Stock is brass mounted. Trigger guard has spear finials & some engraving. Buttplate has fancy steeple tang. Sideplate is in classic "S" shape & there is a vacant brass escutcheon at top of grip. Steel ramrod mounts through 3 beaded pipes w/ matching thimble. CONDITION: very good. Bbl. w/ old oil cleaning shows gray highlights over deep brown patina. Lock is quite dark. Brass once cleaned is toning to mustard brown. Stock has good hand worn areas at grip & fore piece in what appears to be its original oil finish. There are numerous shrinkage cracks which have been repaired along bbl. channel on both sides, otherwise stock is sound. Shiny bore has scattered pitting. Lock will not fully cock.
