Cal. 58. NSN. Bbl. 33" w/ rifled bore. Barleycorn front sight w/ 2 leaf rear sight. Bbl. is dated 1859 w/ "21" marking at breech end. Rear bbl. band is stamped "99/H". 1860 dated Harper's Ferry marked lock w/ Maynard primer feed attachment. 2 band walnut stock w/ solid bands & iron fittings having patchbox on right side. Tulip tipped ramrod. Estimated quantity of 8,700 mfg. 1857-61. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: brass saber bayonet. Handle is numbered "4600" w/ "G" inspector's initials. Blade is dated 1857. Blade has gray appearance w/ general light pitting. Brass parts have acquired a variable mild tarnish. CONDITION: metal has faded gray appearance w/ scattered spots of light pitting. Stock has added finish over dark worn appearance w/ numerous dents, gouges, chips & marks. Bore has a dark lightly frosted appearance w/ spots of pitting retaining intact rifling. (01-24938/DS).
