Horn measures approx. 17" in length & has a wooden plug held in by iron square nails. This is a fully carved horn from butt to point & is not a powder horn but strictly an artistic endeavor likely by a sailor occupying his time on a long sea voyage. The decoration is done w/ thousands of sm. dots likely done w/ the tip of a very sm. hand drill. Decoration includes a lg. stylized American flag, a 2 masted ship flying flags, Liberty cap on pole, a lg. sailor wearing a Liberty cap & holding a cutlass in his left hand. The holes are filled w/ what appears to be red & black sealing wax. Truly an exceptional piece of American folk art w/ obvious naval interest. CONDITION: horn is exceptionally solid overall. A few ceiling wax fillings have been lost from the tiny drilled holes. (02-14722/BF). $200-400.
