RIFLE BY J. MEUNIER. Cal. 38. S# NSN. The 31 1/4" heavy octagon barrel with muzzle turned for bullet starter is stamped "J. MEUNIER" "MILWAUKEE. WIS." on top flat. Breech plug has deep snail shell percussion bolster. Breech iron is fitted with raised base holding windage adjustable aperture sight with large disk. Front spring island lock with chamfered serpentine hammer is unmarked. Rifle is fitted with double set triggers. Steel trigger guard has many finger spurs. Crotch figured American walnut half stock with pewter cap features hook butt, swept right hand cheekpiece and point pattern checkering. Old hickory ramrod mounts through two plain pipes. CONDITION: good, as partially refinished. Barrel retaining most of what appears to be its original blue. Other metal parts show cleaning to gray with silver highlights. Stock retains what may be its original finish with added oil. Checkering lightly worn. Bore is fine with some scattered light pitting. Mechanically good.
