TYPE RIFLE. Cal. 41. NSN. The 36 1/2" octagon bbl. is fitted w/ 1 standing "U" notch rear & brass blade front sights dovetailed through. There are 2 other dovetails plugged w/ brass. Percussion lock is unmarked except for some engraving at rear & scroll on flat faced serpentine percussion hammer. Full length stock of moderately curled maple extends to muzzle w/ 1 1/4" brass cap. Rifle is brass mounted. Trigger guard having curl forming grip. Crescent buttplate has 6" return. Shaped patchbox has circular cover. An inverted crescent moon is on sm. cheekpiece w/ brass edge guard. A hickory ramrod is held by 2 beaded pipes & matching thimble. CONDITION: iron parts once cleaned are now a brownish patina. Wood w/ nearly all old finish. Bore is very good w/ strong rifling. Lock will not hold at full cock & will fire from half cock position. PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. John Persing. (01-19665/MGM).
