Cal. 36. S# 3. Marshall Tidd of Woburn, Mass was a gunsmith that started around the early 1820's continued through the Civil War. Bbl. 23" half rnd. half oct. Underside of bbl. has 3 ramrod pipes, sling swivel & brass tipped wooden ramrod. Bottom flat of bbl. marked "C STEEL". Blade front sight & replacement elevator rear sight having stamped "1 2 3 4 5 6 7" along w/ punch dots corresponding to yardage for rear sight elevator. Hooked breech w/ modern replacement nipple. Action has takedown screw, base for lollipop tang sight & brass finger curl trigger guard. Walnut buttstock w/ sling swivel & brass crescent buttplate. CONDITION: Metal has turned to a brown/gray patina showing vice marks on oct. section of bbl., pinprick oxidation & handling marks. Sanded & refinished wood shows excess varnish on action, large crack left side wrist, wood missing from toe & previous gouges. Buttplate previously clean showing verdigris. Good bore showing visible rifling & 2 large ring bulges. (01-22285/MD). ANTIQUE. $400-600.
