Cal. 50 rifled bore. NSN. Bbl. 40 1/2" full oct. Overall length 55". Has illegible initials on the top flat of bbl. but the rifle has been attributed to Haines. The elaborate 4 piece patchbox has an engraved door & 8 piercings. 15 Silver inlays w/ the cheekpiece oval inlay engraved w/ an American eagle. George Haines worked circa 1835-1850 in Perry Township, Snyder County. CONDITION: patchbox release is not working. The wood is broken at the toe from wood shrinkage & the point on the end of the patchbox finial has been replaced. The lock is quite rusty & needs work. The ramrod is a replacement.
