ATTRIBUTED TO SAMUEL MORRISON. Cal. 45 rifled bore. NSN. Bbl. 42" full oct., signed “SM”. Overall length 57". Has an elaborate brass patchbox w/ 13 piercings, 16 silver inlays along stock, brass toeplate w/ 4 piercings & 6" brass saddle plate. Has a very early hand forged mule ear side hammer lock, indicating extremely early mfg. likely meaning the gun was made in the 1820s. Original stock is nicely curled w/ some incised carving rear of cheekpiece. CONDITION: wood at the toe is, as usual, separated from shrinkage. Stock is broken & repaired through wrist area w/ touched up finish. Hammer mechanism is also broken, requiring repair. PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. John Persing. (01-19553/RG). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
