WITH COOLUS HELMET. The now famous Lorica Segmentata or Lorica Lamminata traces its root to 1500 BC but was adopted by the Romans around 50 BC. This overlapping plate armor, in various incarnations, served the great Legions of Rome for hundreds of years. The familiar armor may have seen use from the defeat of Crassus at Carrhea until the reign of Constantine The Great in the 4th Century. This reproduction heavy armor was created with a plethora of steel plates joined together with stout leather straps. The helmet called a coolus or cassius was the ultimate for protection of the Roman legionaries during their many campaigns, both successful and disastrous. The coolus is steel and brass with a decorated front. CONDITION: the armor and helmet show light use and wear. There are extra leather straps and steel plates included. (02-25118/BF). $300-500.
