Cal. 44 HRF. S# 340. The iconic Henry rifle was important during the US Civil War & evokes images of the United States frontier expansion. Approx. 1400 Henrys were produced 1860-1866. Bbl. 24" octagon w/ German silver blade front sight & sporting leaf rear sight. Integral tubular mag. is loaded by rotating the shroud at the muzzle end. Brass receiver. Walnut stock w/ early style rounded brass crescent buttplate. Top tang channel of stock along w/ stock & buttplate screws have matching S# 340. S# indicates mfg. in 1862 during the Civil War. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 4 piece iron cleaning rod held in stock compartment. CONDITION: brass receiver & buttplate exhibit a pleasing spotted patina w/ gold tones. Side plates & lifter have a mild untouched mustard patina. Bbl. & mag. tube have faded to an even brown showing scattered handling marks & spots. Stock shows evidence of a light refinish w/ scratches & marks. Left side of butt has a 3" crack extending from the center of the buttplate. Smooth mechanics. The bore retains good intact rifling w/ general light pitting. PROVENANCE STATEMENT: from the John Battaglia collection.
