LP.08 SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL, WITH DESIRABLE FINE TUNE FRONT SIGHT. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 6390. Bbl. 7 7/8". LP.08 semi-automatic pistol mfg. by DWM under contract for the Imperial German military in 1916. The bbl. extension is marked "1916" over the chamber, with DWM arsenal proofs marked on the right. Right side of the bbl. extension, bbl., and left side of the breechblock exhibit a German reichsadler proof. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram logo. Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, with some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, mag. release button, safety lever, and ejector exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Fine tune blade front sight, with tangent V-notch rear sight, graduated 1-8. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., front sight, rear sight assembly, bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, as well as the grips. MAGS: 1 non-matching 8-rd. CONDITION: very good to excellent, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their original arsenal rust blue finish, exhibiting some spots of light to mild wear an thinning that show through to gray patina, as well as scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation overall. Sideplate exhibits moderate oxidation and pitting in the bottom right corner. Strawed parts are good, exhibiting varying degrees of wear and spots of age related discoloration. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting a concentrated area of mild to moderate pitting on the right side towards the muzzle, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips show some smoothing, as well as a few marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. An attractive high condition example of a 1916 production DWM LP.08 pistol, with its original fine tuned sights. PROVENANCE: the Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (25-289/MLW). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
