PANEL DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER WITH FACTORY LETTER. Cal. 38 Colt. S# 63786. Bbl. 5". Model 1877 "Lightning" revolver mfg. by Colt in 1888. Left side of the bbl. is marked "COLT D.A. 38" within an etched panel, with Colt's 2-line address marked across the top. Left side of frame is marked with patent information. Major metal components exhibit a nickel plated finish, with the cyl. base pin, frame screws, grip screw, trigger, and rear strap of the hammer exhibiting a nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt black checkered hard rubber grips. Half-moon blade front sight with frame notched rear sight. Bullseye ejector head. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, cyl., trigger guard, and rear grip strap. Grips are matching via a handwritten "786" in white grease pencil on the interior of the panels. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter stating "Serial Number: 63786/ Caliber: .38/c/ Finish: 5"/ Finish: Nickel/ Type of Stocks: Not Listed/ Special Features: Furnished with an ejector./ Shipped To: William Read & Sons/ Address: Boston, Massachusetts/ Date of Shipment: May 17, 1888/ Number of Same Type/ Guns in Shipment: 2". CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original nickel plated factory finish, showing some small spots/areas of flaking and wear that show through to dark oxidation, with a few small spots of light to mild pitting. Nitre blue parts show varying degrees of wear, with worn areas showing through to gray patina. Mirror bore, exhibiting a few small spots of light pitting towards the breech, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Action functions appropriately when cycled by hand in SA and DA modes. Grips show light smoothing and a few superficial handling marks, but are otherwise very good overall. A high condition antique Colt Model 1877 "Lightning" revolver. (01-27265/MLW).
