SMLE [MKIV] 22 CAL. BOLT ACTION TRAINING RIFLE. Cal. 22 LR. S# W64578. Serial number matches on receiver, bolt, rear sight, nosecap & forend. Bbl. 25". Appears to be nearly full diameter sleeve. Marked underneath rear sight "HV". Receiver ring marked on left side w/ prominent "NZ" over "view marks". Butt socket is marked on right side "MK. IV. / crown GR / BSA CO / 1915 / SHTLE / III (the 3 is partially lined out) / PATT'14 / NO2". The socket is also marked w/ very faint "A.G. PARKER / BIRMINGHAM". Mag. cutoff is not present. Bolt head is marked ".22 NO2". 2 piece firing pin is offset in bolt face. Tangent rear sight adj. for windage graduated to 2000 yards. Sight leaf has additional 25 & 100 yard marking to accommodate the 22 LR cartridge. Blade front sight. Nosecap has solid protective ears & bayonet mount. Stacking swivel is not present. Walnut stock set. Handguards have their full tennons alongside rear sight base. Buttstock w/ brass trap buttplate is fitted w/ brass disc on right side which is marked "N / broad arrow / Z / 1919 / 502". Detachable mag. which does not match gun. Does not have spring & follower & was used simply as a receptacle for fired cartridge cases. Rifle is referenced on page 489 of "The Lee-Enfield" by Ian Skennerton. CONDITION: stock set has very good original finish w/ very light wear & tiny scattered handling marks. Metal retains 60% original blue finish w/ thinning turning gray. Bore is shiny but with moderately worn lands. (24-4987/RW). CURIO. $500-800.
