DOUBLE SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 Ga., Pinfire. S# a3743. The 30" damascus barrels are engraved with Westley Richards name and London address along with patent date for dolls head extension on concave game rib. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with Birmingham black powder proofs and S#'s. Bar in wood action fitted with Westley Richards famous sliding top fastener has island type front spring locks with non rebounding flat bodied serpentine hammers having dolphin heads. Top lever is engraved "WESTLEY RICHARDS" "PATENT" and maker's name is on each lockplate. Action and locks are engraved with 60% coverage exceptionally well cut shaded scroll. Blued trigger guard with scroll on bow has S# on tang. Well marbled and stump figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 1/8" over blued steel buttplate with scroll engraving on short top tang. Flat top point pattern checkering is at grip and a vacant silver rectangle is on toeline. Matching crab knuckle joint forend with shaped horn tip attaches to barrel with captive side bolt through oval silver escutcheons. MEASUREMENTS: STOCK: DAH: 2 7/8". DAC: 1 11/16". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14 1/8". WEIGHT: 7 lb. 5 oz. CONDITION: very fine, but gun is very dirty and would profit from a careful cleaning. It appears that metal retains 70% original finish with considerable darkening due to grime, darkened oil and light rusting. Stocks retain nearly all their original finish; there is a small chip of wood missing from left side action area of crab joint. A good amount of original blue remains on buttplate and trigger guard. Bores are bright and shiny but with some very light pitting at breech end of right barrel. Mechanically fine. (01-24207/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,000.
