GAME BOXLOCK EJECTOR DOUBLE RIFLE. Cal. 450 Nitro Express. S# 10594. (CA. 1905). The 28" shoe lump barrels are fitted with full length matted rib, central portion cut away forming quarter rib and front sight ramp. Rib is fitted with one standing leaf express rear sight, and gold bead front with flip-up white moon bead. Tops of barrels are engraved with P. Webley name and address along with cartridge information giving caliber, 70 grain cordite load and 480 grain bullet. Barrel flats are stamped for the same load and also have W&S winged bullet logos. A sling loop is soldered to bottom rib. Case hardened Webley screw grip boxlock action features non-automatic safety ("SAFE" inlaid in gold), pivoting screw grip third fastener which engages square shouldered dolls head rib extension, bushed strikers and double triggers. Action is engraved with 80% coverage very nicely cut varying size scroll within line and scroll borders. P. Webley & Son is on each side. Top lever pivot is engraved "WEBLEY. PATENT". Blued top lever, floorplate, and trigger guard are scroll engraved to match. S# is on trigger guard tang which extends to case hardened grip cap. Strikingly figured and well marbled European walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14 5/8" over Silver pad. Stock features shadow line right hand cheekpiece, drop points, flat top point pattern checkering, vacant silver oval, and a sling loop which correctly matches that on barrel. Matching splinter Southgate ejector forend has forward pivoting lever release. MEASUREMENTS: STOCK: DAH: approx. 2 5/8". DAC: approx. 1 7/8". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14 5/8". WEIGHT: 10 lb. 13 oz. CONDITION: very fine, mostly original as found. Barrels retaining over 90% of original blue, silvering around muzzles and with a scattering of marks mostly on breech end of left barrel. Rear sight is a modern replacement. Action retains about 80% original case hardened color with some silvering and browning around bottom. Top lever has original blue almost totally flaked. Floorplate retains 70% original bright blue. Trigger guard is also considerably flaked with about 20-30% blue remaining. Stocks retain about 90% original finish with some oil added over the years as maintenance. Checkering shows moderate wear. Bores are superb, bright, sharp and shiny throughout, action is tight, mechanically crisp. A very nice rifle! (22-5807/MGM). CURIO. $8,000-12,000.
