A GRADE DOUBLE SHOTGUN. Cal. 20 Ga. 2-1/2". S# 202795 (1927). The 28" barrels w/ slightly raised matted rib are marked w/ Chromox steel info & Fox Philadelphia address on tops. Barrel flats are stamped w/ grade, S# and Fox proof. Bottoms of barrels are stamped w/ striking weight "2". Case hardened sm. size Fox boxlock type action w/ rotaty bolt, automatic safety & double triggers has all correct markings on watertable. Action is engraved in usual Grade A style w/ full coverage lg. acanthus motifs. "ANSLEY H. FOX" is in banner on each side. S# is on blued trigger guard tang. Round knob pistol grip stock of plain American walnut measures 15" over old Redhead pad. Standard point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching splinter forend has Deeley type release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .617. R .617. Restriction: L .007 (IC). R .000 (Cyl). Wall thickness: L .040. R .040. STOCK: DAH: 2-5/8". DAC: 1-7/16". CAST: neutral. LOP: 15". WEIGHT: 6 lb. 10 oz. CONDITION: very fine as partially refinished. Barrels retaining about 95% original blue w/ some light freckling & limited thinning on sides. Action retains over 80% original case hardening color, thinning around bottom & turning to silver on sharp edges. Trigger guard retains about 90% original blue w/ some freckling on bow. Stocks have a heavy coat of varnish on what is probably their original finish that shows evidence of a few marks plus one or two deep scratches. Checkering is also partially gummed w/ varnish. Bores are bright & shiny w/ some staining toward breech end of right bbl. & some light frosting in left, which might clean. Action is tight. Mechanically good. Pad is a later replacement & not well fitted. (23-5726/MGM). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
