SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN. Cal. 16 Ga. 2-3/4". S# 633. This beautifully made gun has 27-5/8" dovetailed steel barrels fitted with narrow matted game rib. No maker or retailer marks are noted although a barrel makers mark "NH"(?) is on bottoms of barrels. Barrel flats are stamped with Belgian nitro proofs for 2-1/2" chambers and date code for 1927. Case hardened square back sidelock action features non-automatic safety, gold plated internals, bushed strikers and double triggers. Action and lockplates are engraved with near full coverage simple scroll with rose bouquet highlights. Top lever is blued. Horn trigger guard extends to steel grip cap. Capped pistol grip stock of lightly veined European walnut measures 14-3/4" over ribbed horn buttplate on 1-1/8" well fitted extension with incised lines at junction. Stock features shadow line right hand cheek piece, sling loop, flush horn lozenge shaped drop points and multipoint pattern checkering. A silver oval on toeline is engraved "AF 1938". Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .670. R .670. Restriction: L .017 (Mod). R .010 (IC). Wall thickness: L .030. R .028. STOCK: DAH: 2-11/16". DAC: 1-3/8". CAST: about 3/8" off. LOP: 14-3/4". WEIGHT: 6 lb. 8 oz. CONDITION: very fine. Barrels retaining about 95% original blue with some scattered marks and silvering on high edges. Action and lockplates retain 90-95% original case hardening color which is thinning a bit on bottom of action and fences. Stocks retain nearly all of what is most likely a high quality oil finish done at time of lengthening, probably for AF in 1938. Checkering also appears to have been cleaned at that time. Bores are bright and shiny. Chambers lengthened. Action tight. Ejectors strong and in time. (24-2223/MGM). CURIO. $5,000-9,000.
